I have a client that REALLY wants a faux finish in her small remodeled bathroom. She lives 40 minutes away. It's that "Drying Time" issue raising it's head again! The room is very small at 120 sf that every step needs drying time and there isn't enough wall work to keep me busy until the coat dries. Even a simple glaze requires 2 setcoats. then there's drying time inbetween coats. This is the scenerio I see ...

Trip #1.) tape off and NW setcoat (2.5hrs + 80 min. of driving) and
leave .. or hang out for 3 hours for the second coat
Trip #2.) apply second NW setcoat and leave (1 hr.+ 80 min. of driving)
Trip #3) roll on glazes ( 3 hs. + 80 min. of driving) and leave
Trip #4) Roll on a topcoat layer (2 hrs. + 80 min. of driving) to provide
protection from hairspray and allow for occasional wipe down and untape.

Another thought is for THE CLIENT to apply the second setcoat, thus saving me a trip.?. Rolling Eyes
These trips really drive up the cost tremendously. Is there an alternative or should I just recommend wallpaper?

Another option would be to sell the client on the possibility of doing another area or some fill in work like some frames or furniture. This would help fill in the two days it would take to complete the room.

sometimes you just CANNOT skip on cure time, esp the setcoat. Why don't you just charge her enough to cover your travel costs??

I am with Bob on this one.
This job doesn't seem to be worth it unless you are doing another project at the same time or you charge extra for all the trips.
Do you have to take that job?
